7 Ministries is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization that functions as a vehicle for Lem Egipto's personal ministry. The organization seeks to take part in Jesus' Great Commission to make disciples of Jesus Christ and teach them to obey His commands. We seek to emphasize relationships with others in order to take part in this ministry. So our mission statement is, "Living for eternity by investing in people." We are called to love and serve people and we want to design our ministries and activities with this in mind. If we invest our time in producing quality disciples of Jesus Christ, that will be able to do likewise, we think we can multiply our efforts to fulfill The Great Commission.
It is our (Lem and Anna Egipto's) desire to minister in the Philippines. We have taken and will take a few more Vision Trips in order to learn more about the culture and prepare to live in the country. On our first trip we discovered there are many ministry opportunities in the Philippines and one in particular which we want take part in. Due to the financial and economic hardships in the Philippines many Filipinos have had to take jobs overseas in order to support their families. These overseas workers are called OFWs (Overseas Filipino Worker) and they have special status in the Philippines since they have brought money back to the local economy. OFWs work all over the world and in many countries that are closed to the gospel. According to a recent census survey 1.75 million OFWs were overseas in 2007 and about 11 million overseas Filipinos worldwide. We seek to train these OFWs to share their faith and help encourage them and their families to take part in the Great Commission in their areas of influence. This is a potential missions force that numbers in the tens of thousands that don't need to raise support and that God has placed in strategic locations all over the world to be salt and light!! Filipinos are perfect for this work since they adapt to cultures quickly and are able to speak English well. God has called many people to this work and we hope to serve with others from many different organizations and churches in this ministry. We are planning to move to the Philippines in March 2011, Lord willing.
In the meantime, we hope to prepare for our work in the Philippines by working in the Clarkston area with refugees. There are over 82 different people groups in the little town of Clarkston and we see it as a great opportunity to work cross culturally right in the city of Atlanta. We currently attend a church that ministers to the many refugees in the area. I am also involved with many organizations that work with refugees and also teach refugees how to drive. These activities have allowed us to meet many refugees and build relationships with them. These relationships have paved the way to share Christ through word and deed. We hope to continue to plant, water, and hopefully reap a harvest in the next few years.
We just bought a house in Kirkwood (just south east of Little Five Points) and we seek to partner with with other believers in our neighborhood to share Christ with our neighbors through the proclamation of the Gospel and modeling Christ through our relationships and service to others. Kirkwood is a mixed income community, of lower income African Americans, professional African Americans, young white professionals, lesbians, and young college aged kids, that is very diverse. This area will also give us plenty of opportunities to interact with many different worldviews and teach us to communicate the Gospel in many different contexts. Anna and I really love this area and are looking forward to ministering to our neighbors around us.
I really have a desire to equip believers to be able to minister to those around them in an everyday setting. God has strategically placed us right where we are to be a light to the world. Many believers miss opportunities to be salt and light to their families, friends, and workplace because they are ill equipped or fear sharing their faith. They often leave it to the professionals to do ministry, when it really should be the other way around (Eph 4:11-15). This will be the kind of work I will be doing with OFWs as well, since they will face many of the same obstacles in their ministry. So I hope to be able to train and equip other believers to share their faith here, in Atlanta, and I think this will be beneficial to our ministry in the Philippines.
Thank you for taking an interest in this ministry. We could always use you prayers. Let us know if there is any way we can serve you.
